PCOShub – So what?
Soooo, you just found out that you have a crazy little thing called PCOS. Your doc has kinda explained a few things to you, but naturally our inner senses gravitate to be all and end all of all great answers....Google!
Hirsutism, excess androgen levels, acanthosis nigricans and I bet you're already sitting there thinking WTF!!! So now, instead of answers, you're exhausted from the information overload, half of which you don't even truly understand yet.
Well at least that's how I felt, all I wished was that someone would explain things to me in plain and simple English, so what I am hoping is that through documenting my journey, I would be able to help someone else and hopefully learn a thing or two from a few of you out there that are going through the same experiences.
I am now 31(OhMahGerd, where did the years go?). I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 21 yrs old and I live in Johannesburg, Sunny South Africa. From what i have found, most doctors that i have been to in South Africa do not even know much about PCOS, they usually write you a prescription for Glucophage and a birth control pill and send you on your merry little way reminding you to come back in 6 months for a repeat script. Did that for about a year or so and although I have come across many women who have benefited from this, I personally did not enjoy the Glucophage, I constantly felt sick while on it.
I also tracked down a homeopath that specialized in fertility, took tons of herbal tablets and a few sessions of acupuncture but stopped as it was breaking my budget at the time. I have decided though that when I am certain that I want a child, I will go back to him.
So yeah, I am pretty much dealing with this for a decade now. I have put on about 40kgs(88lbs), I have really bad facial hair, bad skin and absent periods thanks to PCOS, I have decided that I cannot go on like this and I want to go the natural route, so no meds, just good ol' healthy eating and exercise.
I hope that you will join me in my journey and together we can reach some success, check out my constant blog posts for more info on PCOS, Fitness for PCOS, Awesome Recipes and some Absolute Randomness !
